dawn at the pier

Hurricane Donna hit over Naples in 1960, and the pier collapsed under the force of Category 5 winds and water. Philanthropists Mr. and Mrs. Lester Norris paid some $130,000 to rebuild the pier again, which has been damage by storms since January 1889 four different times before Hurricane Donna collapsed it. It was originally used as a passenger and freight dock, and used mainly for commercial purposes. It was used to bring in freight and passenger’s baggage from ships docking at the pier, as the ships were unable to get closer to shore because of the shallow waters
